I'm under 5 feet and not particularly curvaceous, so the odds are not good for finding one that isn't overwhelming. However, I do have one that makes me look all curvy and borderline elegant.
I don't like driving in long skirts. Maxi's may be okay for vacation wear, but otherwise they don't fit in to my lifestyle. I much prefer shorter dresses for most occasions. You don't see maxies much in either Hawaii or Oregon, which are the places I live.
Tori Rochard, designed on Oahu, I believe has a good selection of maxi dresses and Cinnamon Girl also had good selection of maxis though not sure about recently. My cousins on Oahu wear maxis occasionally and I live outside of Portland where I don't see maxis as often as in LA.

I'm surprised that you do not see them in Hawaii, considering how hot it is there.
I feel like i wear them because its a dress that doesnt make me look like an old lady or a 12yr old. I do hate that some of them are low cut but i add a tank under.
What do you guys think about Maxi Dresses?
They look good or not so much?
Not so much!
How can women bear to dress a long dress in this heat?
It also depends on the shape of the body in it.
Some look like an "autobus' stuck in it.
(omg, will this give me an infraction?.....:-(.....)
Well, and since the OP is a guy it looks like he's doing the thing where he's using the the fashion board to inform us of what he thinks is hot. Okay, thanks?
No, my hunch is, according to how he phrased it, that he does not like them.
The...."not so much".... is encouraging to say NO. Why else would he have added this?
Wow I would think there be more people who think they are sizzling hot.
oh yes, they are sizzling hot in 100 degree heat in NYC!....:-))))
That's usually all that sizzles...
