Lately there have been a lot of articles around about overseas companies making knock-off clothing, and how poorly made they are. The pictures of the original clothing are usually "borrowed" from what I understand, so I assume there is a real designer behind them.
So who exactly is making these gorgeous originals? Where should I be shopping to get the real deal?
Is it the big department stores, boutiques, or are they even more upscale than that?
Counterfitters copy the creations of popular designers or brands. As long as they think they can make some money from it, they'll produce a counterfeit. It's just another scam.

Thanks for the reply. I see the ads for the knock-off companies and the clothing is just beautiful. It's stuff I don't see where I normally shop (Macy's, etc.).
We're getting a Nordstrom Rack and a Sack's Off Fifth here, so maybe they'll have some cute stuff.
I need to step up my shopping game. Nordstrom, here I come!
Saks Off Fifth and Neiman Marcus Last Call are good places to buy actual designer clothes at great prices, Nordstrom Rack to a lesser extent.
Pieces that are heavily inspired by the latest designer shows can be found at Zara. Their business model is to quickly design, make and ship whatever is hot right now, they rotate their stock very frequently. H&M works in this way too but the design is not often as good as t is at Zara.
