I mostly buy Chico's but I see better buys with Dressbarn. Are they about the same quality or is Chico's a whole lot nicer? TIA

Five years ago, I would have said Chico's is nicer and better-made.

But Chico's' has gone downhill... so I would say they are about the same.

My personal experience with Dress Barn v. Chico's is that Dress Barn's clothes tend to run just a bit shorter on all areas: shorter waists, shorter pant legs, shorter rise, shallower armholes, etc. It's like 1/4" or 1/8" is saved on every seam on every piece of clothing. It's certainly not a place where I'll take something home reasonably sure it will fit (even a t-shirt) without trying it on. I do have several pieces from Dress Barn but more often than not, I leave the store empty-handed from fit issues. Chico's is an easier fit, but some pieces tend to be boxy or unflatteringly unfitted. That, combined with their higher prices, I end up with fewer Chico's pieces in my wardrobe overall.

I find Chico's pants fit me very well, better than any other store. But I don't buy much else there because, like was mentioned, their tops and jackets are too boxy with no waist emphasis and I find they seem to be geared toward seniors.

Don't care for Dress Barn - the clothes are too cheap looking.

Dress Barn = the worst brand name I can think of for a ladies clothing store. I refuse to shop there just because of the name. LOL! I am totally serious. What marketing genius came up with that one? As if women need to buy a dress in a barn? Are we being equated with livestock? I know I am being weird---but I find the name crazy.

RE: Chicos---I have a close friend who loves that store.

Oh my gosh They could not be more different. Dressbarn is um....quite cheap...poorly made clothes. Chico's is quite nice...overpriced to be sure, but an entirely different type of clothing.

A supervisor I used to have shopped almost exclusively at Chico's, so I associate that store with gaudy holiday vests and will NEVER set foot in it.
And I agree with TotallyTam about the name "Dress Barn." What an instant turn-off! It should go down in the annals of marketing as the worst, right along with TrueGreen ChemLawn (which they finally have the sense not to call themselves anymore.)

I wear Chico's exclusively. I hate to shop in real stores, and their online site is great. Easy returns, too.

I've not seen a Chico's before, I have seen a few DressBarns, they are hit or miss. The closest one to me tends to have some nicer and better fitting clothes. I know it is easier for me to find clothes there that fit height wise (i'm short) than some other stores but not my number one pick.
