My GF routinely buys items she likes in every color available. She's been doing it for years.

Yes, because so much of what I try on doesn't end up working out (bad fit, unflattering, etc) that when I do find something, I buy in bulk to the extent it makes sense.

I used to own turtlenecks in a rainbow of colors, but now I just own a few in colors that look good on me.

I found a particular brand/size of yoga/exercise pants that I love, so I own probably 8-10 pairs (a few gray, the rest black).

Jeans and jean capris - same thing. Found a size/brand/wash I liked, bought 3-4 identical pairs of each.

Earlier this year I finally broke down and got a pair of compression capri leggings to wear to the gym instead of my ratty shorts. The second I put them on I asked them where they have been all my life. Just loved the look and feel, so now I wear them all the time outside the gym with a short dress/long tunic top over it. It can actually be difficult to find a tunic top that covers the rear end and extends a few inches/a foot or so below---that's where dresses can come in that would be too short to wear on their own, but do well over leggings.

Target has a sleeveless dress that I love the feel and fit of it. All of $20 and it looks like a $200 Eileen Fisher dress! So I got them in all the colors: black, olive, and magenta. Then they got reduced to $14, so I got three more in case the original ones got stretched out or stained. Now they are reduced to $10---would it be crazy to get three more? Will I need to join a support group for obsessive buying and fixation on an item of clothing?

Has anyone else bought more than one of the same item (not underwear!) to make sure they will always have it?
First time I did this my husband had just been offered early retirement and we didn't at that time know what our financial future was. I looked at a pair of pants at Penney's that was $30 before Christmas. Got my Christmas money and went back to the store and the pants were marked down to $10. I had gone into the store to purchase one pair of pants but since the same $30 would now buy two other colors and I thought I might need them; I not only got the black pants but also bought a pair of red and navy too. That was 1993. The red and black pairs have been gone for a long time but I still wear the blue pair. They'll be gone soon too. $10 for a pair of pants and one pair lasts for more than 20 years and for a while I used these pants as my work uniform, wearing each one at least once a week. That was a real bargain.

Sometimes I do.

Two of the same jeans (in two different "washes"/colors if I can), two or more of a great fitting T-shirt, two different colors of a fantastic pair of shoes.

Oh, my goodness, yes -- even to 2 in the same color. Three in the same color . . . well, maybe you ARE a crazy tunic-hoarder!

But seriously, if something fits well and is classic enough in style, and it's a great deal, why not?!? I found a great t-shirt with elbow-length sleeves a couple years ago, and ordered a few more in other colors. It was end of season so I figured I'd get more in the spring.

Well, of course, the catalog doesn't carry it any more. I wish now that I'd ordered a dozen! Something always happens to my basic wardrobe pieces -- grease stain that just won't come out, dye transfer in the laundry. I would love to have had backup duplicates for SO many of my favorite pieces over the years.

I bought 4 pair of my favorite slippers because they were on sale and I rotate them as I wash the others.
After washing and drying them, I seem to have more right foot slippers though.. I think the lefties ran away with the socks.

I often buy clothes in multiples too.. the same shirts, same color, or the same pants.

I work from home, so my "work uniform." I like to get dressed and look presentable, but I also like to be comfortable, and I don't see much use in wearing my nicer clothes just for no one to see them.

This means that when I find an affordable price and a nice cut on something I like to wear around home often, like scoop-neck and V-neck T-shirts, henleys, etc., I buy multiples.

I also buy multiples if I find jeans that fit well, leggings that aren't too tight, don't sag and aren't see-through, etc.

ETA: Oh, and camis! I buy them by the half dozen in each color once I find a fit that I like and a price that I can afford.

I have tube tops and capris each in black, khaki, and olive. Thankfully I bought them before Cache went out of business. Got a really good deal on them too. Pants are such a pain and most of the time I don't want to think about what to wear. Just a nice solid color shirt and a pair of dress pants is fine for work. If I find a pair of pants that fits properly, I'll get a couple in black and maybe a couple in khaki. When Banana Republic had cardigans on clearance, I bought them in three different colors. And it's nice to have some maxi skirts in a few solid colors.

Absolutely, I am short and skinny so its hard to find clothes that really fit the right way. If something fits, I have no problem buying it in multiple colors. Another note, you can never really have enough white t-shirts as a guy.

That's the part that I know is a little crazy---but at $20 each original price I figure they won't last forever (and I am prone to getting stains on stuff). There's the risk that I won't even like them by next summer, but they are pretty classic and comfortable and fit well, so I guess I'll do it. I just have one cat in the interest of not becoming a crazy cat lady, but looks like I am on my way to be the crazy tunic-hoarding lady!
Hang one of each in the back of your closet so you have new ones to wear next season. Not so crazy at those prices!
