Once or twice in my life have I gotten the EXACT same top before in which the color was probably black. And if I found some jeans I like, I'll get them repeatedly (even the same style & color).
Now I will get numerous styles of different BLACK tops.
I'm also one who will buy multiples of the same thing that I love - often in the same color and often in different colors. If I don't and I really love something, I'm always sorry that I didn't get more of them. It seems like a lot of people do this.
I also buy lots of other clothing and shoes that I only want one of. I pretty much just buy whatever I want to buy and I know I'm very fortunate to be able to afford to do that. Still, I do like to wait for sales, but there are some things that I will pay full price for due to fear of them being sold out and then not able to get more of them.

I buy multiple versions of the same thing all the time. I have multiple polo shirts in different colors, multiple pairs of the same pants in different colors and multiple pairs of the same sneaker (mostly Puma Suede) in different colors. I buy multiple suits at the same time but they're not all the same.
I wear turtlenecks 6 months per year in my cold climate, and I think I have about 30 Lands End T-necks in every color of the rainbow, all bought on sale. I don't see a problem with buying multiples of something if they're good quality, a good value, and something that you'll wear a lot, particularly if they're a bottom layer so people don't realize you're wearing exactly the same garment every day in a different color.
