My husband and I do a lot of little day trips. He carries everything in a back pack. In the summer, though, it gets hot and he sweats.

Is there a back pack that will minimize this and help him keep cool?

He wants one that is insulated, but I think that would effectively eliminate the cooling part.

I would like to see one that is made of a mesh-y material.

Any ideas?

Stop by REI and talk to the people there; try on several.

Pitt Chick has given you excellent advice. Backpacks serve a wide range of functions for men as we don't (not as a rule, anyway,) carry a purse. My needs are so wide-ranging (carryon for international flights, computer gear, photography gear, food shopping, etc.) that I have I'd guess six different packs. Pitt Chick recommends going to REI, and that's great advice because their staff is general well informed, and also they carry various brands, not just REI. If you can't make it to REI or they don't have a store where you live, here's a link to their online guide to selecting the right pack. So if your husband, once fully informed, decides to get more than one pack, he really may have good reason for it. Good luck.
