I've had my ears pierced since I was 12 and I totally agree. I was old enough to decide and it did hurt! But I've never had any problems.

My cousin had her baby girl's ears pierced and she screamed bloody murder and one got infected a few weeks later.

I would never do that to my 6 month old. Plenty of time for that.

Nope, my mother didn't believe with any body piercing so I just stayed with that and wear clip on earrings.

I'm very much a sparkle/"shiny thing" enthusiast being a visual person so I'm a woman in this sense as I love necklaces, some rings, bracelets, some shirts with a dash of sparkle, phone cases with diamonds on them and occasionally wear hair extensions but I don't have pierced ears. I used to at one point in my life but I couldn't be bothered to wear them on a regular basis so the hole closed up. At one point it wasn't completely closed so I could still put earrings in but it hurt like a B! That is my main problem with earrings..I don't like the extra upkeep. I have enough of that with trying to maintain my long hair. I don't believe in harming myself/putting a hole in my body all in the name of beauty (which is why I use Nair on my pits instead of a razor and why I try to use conditioner as much as I can for the hair on my head). Being a HSP type I don't do well with that. Same reason I don't like to wear makeup much as it can cause skin issues. My other problem with earrings is I'm a chronic misplacer so I'll often find that I have to throw earrings out because I don't have the pair to it and I don't want to wear just one nor do I have a guy that would want to wear it.

That being said I think women can look beautiful with earrings..provided they're not really long. (I might even put earrings on my Sim self just not my real body) To me there is such a thing as too much. I also don't mind guys wearing earrings either especially if it's only one. Other than that they're just not for me just like tattoos. I appreciate some tattoos on other people.

Yeah for me it falls along the line of regularly dressing your dog in clothes..obviously more physically painful in this case than a dog wearing clothes but you're doing something that they probably don't even want you doing because they look miserable when you are decorating/dressing them up.

Chiming in on ear piercing for babies/small children. The earrings can be a choking hazard. The child can worry them off, and there's a "phase" when they explore their world by putting things in their mouth. That's why most baby clothes don't have buttons, little bows, etc. I never did understand why pierce a baby's ears, anyways. Someone told me its so they can wear earrings to their Christening? Strange....I'm Lutheran, and I never heard of that.....

My sister still doesn't (in her mid 20s)... she was saying to me that they weren't worth the hassles/risk. Plus, my parents were doctors and never liked seeing swollen earlobes on the ER.

I like seeing pierced ears rather than those earlobes with the huge holes in them. Also, if I had those, I'd be worried someone would run up and click a padlock on one of them and take off again. With the key.

JMO but I think something like Earrite earrings are perfect for those of us who don't have pierced ears. They just wrap around your ear. No clips. No screws. No pain. My only problem with them is that a lot of them are a little too flashy for my everyday wardrobe. YMMV

They work for pierced too especially if you want to wear something a little heavy without stretching your lobes.

I never have and I'm 40 yrs old. Just seemed like an uncomfortable thing to do, piercing anything and having something foreign in my ears. Not only that, but I'm clumsy and I don't think I'd be able to have fun with fixing the back of the clasps, sight unseen, and I did think of finally just doing it, but then I like to sleep with my head on the side and I think having earrings would make that feel uncomfortable too.
