Amazed at how many people have not heard of the pinching. I'm from the midwest originally and it was a thing there, mostly in the way of silly teasing, along the lines of a granny cheek pinching or "I'm gonna pinch your nose off". I don't recall many instances of the other kids actually being mean about it.
I have a bit of Irish in me and I always wear a little something green. I'ts a hard color to wear so I often wear green stone jewelry or clothing that has a bit of bluish green or emerald in it. Kelly green or any sort of yellowish green makes me look sickly!
It's not new. People tried that pinching stunt when I was a kid in the 1950s, and my reaction was direct and to the point. My eyes are green; that's green enough.
St. Patrick did not dictate people be pinched. It's stupid, people, not funny. In this day and age, it can result in some very serious badness going down.
I was wondering, did you wear green this past St. Patrick's Day?
I wore my Absinthe Green IZOD Advantage Polo. I really don't have a lot of green clothes, so I think this was the perfect choice.
Never,
I hate St. Pat's ever since I lived in a town where it was a big deal
One day our science teacher said "Since it's St. Pat's, for extra points on the test, write down the name of the language spoken in Ireland"
1/2 of the kids in my class knew the answer
I was left there thinking "WTF kind of BS is this?"
No. I think it's really dumb. I think people in retail wear green because it's a holiday, and holidays can be money makers for retail - holiday themed bakery items, etc.
I grew up with the pinching thing - but only when I was in elementary school. I think it's dangerous for adults to be doing it - potential for lawsuits and awfully unprofessional in the work place.
Seriously, I presume that green underwear doesn't count. I actually own some green underwear It looks like there is some underwear specifically made to 'honor' Saint Patrick.
I never heard of pinching as a tradition. Maybe it has been rare for decades. Besides, it makes more sense to kick gingers
Funny, for years when asked where my green clothing was for SP Day I would reply "My underwear is green." That ended the conversation. Now I just say "My eyes are green." (They are.) LOL
I love this! I don't think I have enough items of any one color to do a whole month but I'm sure I could do a week. My problem is I like variety so I might get bored. But, I like the idea. I wonder if anyone will noticed or has noticed.
I picked up a lot of my tops and accessories from area thrift shops and consignment stores. I also got a cheap scarf--black with green shamrocks--as a default to go with the rest of my wardrobe. Since I announced to my coworkers that it was going to be "the month of Green" they had no choice but to notice.
BTW...I'm not Irish but I'm convinced that I was a Celt in a previous life
