A decade ago or so when it was stylish to wear short tops and everyone was doing it I saw way too much underbelly....shudder. If you do it anywhere other than a gym or super-casual places you look like you're trying way too hard. Kinda like the guy who always wears a tank top or finds an excuse to take off their shirt.
I would add: at outdoor events, street fairs, outdoor concerts, that sort of thing.
Outdoor events seem to be the best place for a bare midriff....but I do think that look is best on someone young. Even when fit, it isn't a flattering look on someone older IMO.

Not for someone who looks older, no. These days you can't always tell how old someone is. And obviously it's not a good look for anyone of any age who isn't in shape.

I showed my midriff to the meter reader guy once because I thought it was my friend at the door. I just whipped my shirt up over my head and said, "Why are you knocking? Just haul yer knockers in here!" And then it was the meter reader and I had to apologize to him for being so lewd. He laughed and said it was a first for him. But I learned my lesson. Just show the midriff... don't lift your shirt higher than that. I hope my advice helped.
Way to go on your killer abs! That's hard work. You might as well show them off. I have strong butt muscles so I always wear buttless chaps. HA. I kid, I kid!
