Don't know if they still exist, but Avon used to make SOS wipes. We were visiting a plantation on the James River in Virginia one day. As we stood outside the house, waiting on our tour group to enter, the mosquitoes came in like a fog. A woman pulled out one (yes, ONE) SOS wipe and suddenly there was a clear area all around her. She handed out all of her wipes. We did not rub the oil on us, just held the wipes, and within an eye blink there were no mosquitoes around us.

Maybe all you need to do is hold one in your hand - or attach it to a backpack, purse, etc.

I like the idea of attaching it to an inanimate object. I remember some time ago there was a theory that fabric softener sheets would repel flies - I had horses at the time and rode every day - and we'd tie those sheets to the bridle to keep flies away from their eyes. Some more effective products came along but we would try anything. Eventually some genius invented thin mesh masks for them to wear so we switched to those. That's probably what I need! Seriously, thanks for the idea. I'll have to check out the SOS wipes. Maybe the scent won't bother me so much if it's not on my skin.

I think it smells a lot like citronella, so that's probably one of the ingredients.

Always gave me a terrific headache, so I never was able to test the mosquito-repellant factor.

After getting 20+ mosquito bites this weekend, Ive decided I'm going to give this a try. Hopefully it works as it has been a miserable weekend with all these bites.

And yes, I had bug spray on.
