Yup. Short and billowy with swooping necklines and grotesque colors. Who designs this stuff? I'm beginning to think I'll have to teach myself to draw my own patterns and sew my own clothes.
The long stuff is made to cover your butt when you wear leggings. Short tops go with regular jeans.
What short tops? I can't find any......and I don't mean crop tops that show bare skin.
I want tops that come a few inches below the waist. On me they look more youthful and flattering.
I am wearing tops that are 15, 20 years old. Hell, I even dug out a few tops of my mothers....and she died in 1984!
They are blouses that are fitted nicely, pretty pastel summer colors, thin, cool cotton blends that don't wrinkle and never need ironing. Very flattering.
Gawd, how I hate what is out there now.....depressing colors, boxy or sloppy cuts that do you no favors, materials that wrinkle easily and always need ironed.
NO THANKS! I will keep wearing my old stuff even though it would be nice to wear something new for a change.

Boy you said it......garish, hideous colors and ugly geometric patterns. YUK!
And, I have thought of taking my old tops to a tailor and asking them to copy them.....that is if I could even find any nice material these days.
Retailers are catering to the land whales. Of which there are many.
Take a top that fits you well, bring with something new you like but doesn't fit, and go to a dry cleaner alterations person. They are much cheaper than a tailor. If you drop off several pieces that you want sized like your "oldie", they will zip them all up the same. Result will be very professional. Wash the new ones first, in case of shrinkage.
I have noticed that, too. I am slim, but I have a bigger chest so when I wear tops like that I end up looking boxy or like I am in a maternity shirt.
I know! Glad I can sew, so I take the side seams in sometimes, especially toward the waistline. Gives them more shape.
