I had to start wearing thick glasses at 9 years old, then got contacts at 19 and rarely wear my glasses out of the house. I hated wearing them and being called "four eyes" and feeling ugly because I was "defective". My, how times have changed.
There's no denying that glasses are both function and fashion. If they weren't fashion, the local vision center wouldn't have walls and walls full of various shapes, sizes, and colors. And why would people wear them if not for function? Because in addition to making people look more intellectual (it's true) they can be cute/pretty/handsome/sexy [insert alternate adjective here]. Just consider the stereotypical "sexy librarian" look. Wouldn't be the same without the glasses, right?
I've never seen anyone wearing frames without at least dummy lenses. But even if someone wanted to do that, it doesn't bother me.
It makes the other people feel the person wearing frames without lenses must be real ugly without the glasses on, and wants to cover up something and distract people from seeing them as they really are. Just a Juvenal thing to cover up flaws.
I think its because there are so many nice designer frames now but why not just wear sunglasses... mine are prescription ones and I love them as I wont wear my glasses outside, never have since a child.. but Ill wear my sunglasses no problem..just wish Id have had thinned down lenses like these when I was young.. Id have worn them much more often.. I have two pairs of prescription sunglasses now as I love them so much.. never thought Id see the day Id want to wear glasses..
Stupid. Being a hipster used to be a halfway okay thing to be, but this is just retarded and sad.
