I don't believe in rules or codes for attire other than work dress codes that you have to follow to keep your job. Ours is business casual, with casual Fridays. Do I sometimes wear jeans on a day that's not Friday? Yes, and no one really enforces it. Other than work, I dress for comfort, this time of year almost always shorts and a pocket Tee.
I once wore a tie-dye T-shirt to work and called on it. Well, uh, okay. Jeans were allowed only on Fridays and it was certainly enforced.
Later on I went to work in another department where jeans were - are - also restricted to Fridays, but that manager's peeve was cargo-style pants. He hated them. But.... he thought nothing of tie-dye Tees, so I wore them whenever I felt like it.
For my daughter's funeral I refused to wear black. Instead I wore white with purple flowers didn't on it. Most of the people that were there probably thought nothing of it because I've always marched to my own beat when it comes to clothes.

When there is a dress code at work, I follow it, because it's not worth negative work ramifications over what I wear. Fortunately, the state I live in veers heavily towards the casual and my workplace is no exception, so there are few limits on what I wear.
Outside of work, I wear whatever I feel like wearing.
At work, I follow dress code. Not interested in losing my job over clothing.
Outside of work, I dress however I want, provided it's appropriate to the setting/event, and it's not rude to do so (i.e. I wouldn't wear short shorts and a belly shirt to a wedding because it would be both inappropriate and rudely attention-stealing)
I push my limits when applicable. Even though I'm a very conservative dressed overall.
I'm also definitely one to break the mold when it comes to nudity (when applicable!). I'm a passionate nudist, and not the in your face kind. I just like to shock people until it's not a shock anymore. Exposure therapy, they call it.
