Absolutely! In my younger days I had a mop of silky, long hair and people often thought I was a woman from behind. I never took any offense, but it certainly led to so some funny situations.
As a 10-12 year old child I was often mistaken for a boy by a clerk in the local butcher shop. I remember that it bothered me to no end as a kid but I laugh at the memory now.

But, hey, in coveralls and pack boots it's kind of hard to tell. :-)
This thread is fun. I get, "hey, man," when I'm working in my garden with a hat on once in a while. I'm slender and petite--sometimes I've been called "boy" in public, especially with a hat and hair braided under it. When I look up, people inevitably figure it out and kind of blush. I find it amusing, though I can see where such cases of mistaken identity might get annoying or even offensive. We should all check our assumptions sometimes.

Let me amend that by saying there are situations where other people's mis-identification of anyone's gender identity can be terrifying and/or deadly. Because I mostly appear to be harmless, I've never felt as if I was in danger due to others' assumptions. However, that is not the case for everyone with an androgynous appearance.
