What do you call pants that end between your knees and your ankles? I grew up calling them pedal pushers but now call them capris. (61)

Same here (59). They used to be pedal pushers. I have heard the term clam diggers, but we didn't call them that growing up,

Now they are capris.

I say "capris." My mom says "pedal pushers," which kind of makes sense because they would work for riding a bicycle. Do you all think that's where the "pedal" reference comes from? (I'm 47).

They’re all a bit different to me. Pedal pushers are typically slim and end just below the knee. Capris end mid- to low-calf. Clam diggers are similar to capris in length, but at a very relaxed fit and a wider straight leg.

Capris, and I hate them. I am 5'4 and they make me look shorter. Prefer the long legged boot leg jeans with a longer shirt. Is this not the same as "knickers"? My mom used that term.

This, but capris end just above the ankle. Think Mary Tyler Moore in the Dick Van Dyke Show.

Knickers in the US refers to the short pants boys wore before puberty at the beginning of the 20th century. The pants were fuller than pants are cut now, and bloused around the knee. Baseball players wore them for a long time, but I think they've switched to long pants now.

Knickers in the UK refers to women's underpants.

That's what I think of as well. I mainly hear "Capri" used for all of those styles, but I also agree they are different. And your definition matches mine
