I flip through a lot of women's magazines and am amazed at the prices of clothing - $120 for a blouse, $390 for a skirt - and that is the low end magazines, not Vogue or Town and Country. I was brought up in a middle class home but during and after college I was financially responsible for myself and I grew to like shopping in thrift stores.
So my most expensive purchase was a wool, midi length winter coat, $30 new, bought in the late 1970's and I wore it for many years.
I asked my sister this question - she has a professional degree and earning potential of well over $100 an hour. Her response - a coat for $80.
So C-D folks, chime in - I am talking about a new purchase of a new item although if you wish go ahead and tell us about the $4K Balenciaga dress you got for $20 at Goodwill.

No, you aren’t a dinosaur. I like to buy quality, but not a lot of items. I have several Eileen Fisher items, bought on sale, for about $300 for an outfit, or $200 for a dress. These items never go out of style and and they might be 15 years old.
Most of my everyday wear is from places like Marshall’s or TJMaxx. I paid $135 for jeans once.
My most valuable article of clothing is a fur coat my husband bought me, when his company first started making money. We went to Toronto and he bought me a raccoon coat for $2300. This was back in the 1980s. Even though I have t worn it in years, it has sentimental value.
If I could find clothing that I liked aesthetically + fit the way I want + holds up with wear for $30 id do that all day long.
I'm a guy, not that it matters much - but in case it's relevant for comparison. The obvious answer for me is a suit. I think my most expensive was in the $700 range. Ignoring suits though, probably a $400 wool topcoat I got for $200. I don't consider either of this excessively expensive.
My wool maxi coat that I brought years ago. It has fur trim and a fur collar which probably added to the expense. I brought it about 10 years ago. love it.
My louie Vuitton bag. It was a gift to myself when I finished grad school. 3K, worth every penny. lol
Not meaning to be rude but one thing you have to remember is that there is a lot of wealth out there.
My boss is a great young women, about in her late 30's. she's a project manager and easily makes 200K. no kids and her husband probably makes just as much.
120.00 bucks for a blouse is probably really not a stretch for her.
Everything depends. You can find $30 piece of clothing mixed with $400 and up piece, in my closet:-). Even I don't like to spend more than $200 for a piece, if I do, it has to be special and timeless, beautiful.
My average price would be somewhere between $30-60 for something.
I found out that more expensive clothing cover my fatty deposit better. LOL (usually it flows better):-)

I like to shop for deals....Gabes, TJ Maxx, ThreadUp, and Goodwill in wealthy neighborhoods. $120 for a blouse is a lot to me, but to some it's really not.
I'm wanting to replace an old leather coat, but so far not liking the leather coats I see in the stores now. I usually don't like to buy clothing online, because too often I have to return stuff...I'd rather see it, feel it, try it on, etc. The old one I bought during the height of the recession for about $100, on extreme sale.
