You might want to reconsider your thinking that Clark's are overpriced. They are more expensive than other brands, but they last a long time. I've had a couple of my pairs for 10 years or more. I don't wear them daily, but often enough that they are used. A little touching up with polish and they look great. It does depend on the sole though.
I hear ya girl!! While I wear a 5.5 or 6 I have a very wide foot, EE. Some specialty manufacturers don't even make wide sizes in smaller sizes so it's always bee a struggle. Even Easy Spirit had to special or my sizes, wait 6-8 weeks. Thankfully I don't wear dress shoes often and seem to be able to get casual shoes that work. I have a choice of 4 colors of dress shoes in my closet, I buy clothes to match my shoes usually... Had to buy non-fitting shoes once because the brides maid dress needed white shoes and the special ordered that takes 6 weeks fell through and they didn't both to let me know until it was too late.
I resort to Zappos sometimes, also thrift stores that sell worn shoes that maybe stretched out enough to fit. Have some great shoes from thrift stores.
Manufactures need to start making more shoe lines in larger sizes, luckilly female sizes are like a size and ½ larger than a mens, but I guess it sucks a bit more when you want an actual womans shoe and you don't wear a "proper" womans size. I feel you. I wear a size 15. Hard as hell to find shoes I like in my size and damn near imposible to find a womans shoe in the style I like in my size, despite they exist somewhere. There can't only be one Peggy Hill. I've searched many sites for larger womens sizes, I have found as large as 13.
Best thing we can do enmass is write these people, regardless of shoe size, that there is a need for larger shoe sizes. I've done it a few times.
I wear a 10 1/2. Recently more manufacturers have added that size, but still many manufacturers do not make it. Their sizes skip 10 1/2, going from 10 to 11. But women are taller and heavier than in decades past. I look for more selection in larger sizes as time goes on.
For a number of years I had to make do with size 11, and put in an insert to make the shoe work.
I think Euro sizing is better for larger sized feet.
15 minutes in DSW Saturday and five pairs amongst others Clarksville sandals in nude for 12$ and Vionics patent leather FlipFlops for 13$. Plants of larger sizes and a great clearance rack.
