10 coats that range in length from ankle length to just below the knee, and 15 jackets ranging from just above the knee to just below the bum. I don't wear waist length jackets, for me in my climate they would be useless.
I have a trench coat and a wool coat that were bought when I lived in NC. I've worn them each once in the last 19 years I've been back in Florida. I bought a lighter black & white hounds tooth coat a few years ago when it was on sale at Ann Taylor but it is very light weight and I have worn that maybe 5 times. It doesn't get cold enough down here to wear a winter coat unless you happened to be going out during one of our rare cold snaps where the temperature deeps into the 40's. Even then, it's rare for our daytime temps to be below 60.
I have one that I call my Illinois coat. (used it when I visited family years ago) It keeps you really warm. (had it over 20 years now! However, I live in San Antonio and very rarely have to use it, maybe once every two years or so.
I'm not talking about jackets, but coats that reach your knees (or a little above, or a little below.) Please include trench, raincoats, winter parkas, etc.
The purpose of this thread is merely to see where I fall in the average scheme of things; i.e., pure amusement and curiosity.
Let 'er rip!
Using your criteria of falling to the knees, I own one, a formal winter dress coat. I have an additional two waist-length jackets for inclement weather, one for the very occasional rainstorm here in Denver and another for casual cold-weather wear.
One camel trench that hasn't fit me in 15 years but has never made it to the donation bag, and one super warm, down-filled puffy winter coat that just covers my bum. I love it but the feathers work their way out of the lining and stick to my clothes, so I almost never wear it.
Other than that, I just have 3 Columbia fleeces in different colors and one sort-of waterproof hoodie (I think they used to be called Adirondacks?) that I use as a rainjacket. Even in Alaska I find that a sweater, hat and gloves usually keeps me warm enough.
2 one is wool and the other is leather. I hate wearing coats in the winter so basically my everyday coat/jacket is a zippered fleece unless I am going somewhere dressy then it's the wool or leather coat.
One. I live in the south. The one I have, bought it right before this past winter. Good thing too because it was brutally cold for the south.
That happens. When my friend moved to Florida one Spring, she got rid of her one remaining coat after a few months. It was a mistake.
