i was a teenager in Catholic school during the late 1990's, and we had to wear uniforms. The girls (including me) would roll our skirts to make them super short, and we'd also wear high heels, but the big, clunky ones.
The dances were a place to show off your sexy attire. Tank tops, low-rise tight jeans, and visible thongs.
I was a child during the early 1990's, so my knowledge is limited as to what went on. I remember people wearing leggings, sweaters, and modest dresses in everyday life. I can't say what they wore during college or when they went to parties, as I was not exposed to that scene back then.
I believe that the late 1990's and beyond were different from the early and mid 1900's... Teenagers/20-somethings dressed sexier in the late 1990's+ because fashion was greatly influenced by Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Crop tops were also popular during that time.
I just remembered another item that half of my junior high school owned during the '89 - '92 era -- plain front light khaki colored Banana Republic t-shirts with a scenic vista or animal printed on the back.
I am talking about women that would be in their teens/20s in the early 90s. And a few additional questions: 1. Far as clothing goes how different would you say women in the same age group compare to today?
2. I realize women have always been under pressure to look young and physically attractive, would you say there was still a lot of women trying to get away with wearing the shortest/revealing attire? Like teen girls/20-something women trying to show off as much cleavage and shortest skirts/shorts/outfits as possible?

I was 15 in 1991 and I wore Levis 501s and tanks/tshirts. I wore short black skirts, fitted jeans jacket, converse shoes, skinny jeans were popular.
I feel like I wore the same things than as I do now many times. The fashion hasn't changed that much.

Skinny jeans, converse and fitted jacket in early 90s? Sounds like a punk look.
I was a youngish woman in my late twenties and early thirties. I remember that the fashions were pretty dang bad.
I lived overseas in Germany in the early 90s and it seemed that everyone was wearing Doc Martens, suspenders, starched jeans, those weird uncomfortable looking shirts...I didn't realize till much later that there was a twinge of white supremacist ideology to that attire. Actually a big twinge. To me, the look just seemed pretty uncomfortable.
I have to admit though, that liking boots as much as I do, I still like some Doc Martens.

I found your comment re: ideology twinged attire very interesting, more so considering the country and era.
I like boots too, evidently getting a bad case of the affliction! It started early this year and I bought 4 pairs of cowboy boots and another specific for horse riding, two pairs of Uggs (identical, they are so comfy!) and think maybe a pair of Doc Martens or mountaineering boots might be a nice way to top off my collection. One thing about having several pairs of boots, e.g. 5 pairs of cowboy boots will last 5 times longer because you wear each pair only 1/5 as often. So you see owning more pairs of boots really doesn't cost anything.
I'm curious what "those weird uncomfortable looking shirts" were like.
