Thanks MQ! I'll relay 32/32 to GF. GF was vague on daughter's location, but the trip may be months away. I more or less know NYC geography as well as anybody who hasn't been there, particularly boroughs. With all those rivers you can see the effect of geography on politics.
And me, sensible footwear? Yeah, at the gym. I'm gonna have to reprogram myself. My best pair of boots yet is the riding boots I bought Tuesday, and they might cut it walking a mile. I could easily walk several miles in my Reeboks!
I wanna wear my dress cowboy boots but suspect that would mandate Uber.
One of my NYC trips had me clocking 38k steps. That was the most ever. It did also include the airport portion as well. I walked on the High Line. About 1/2 mile each way to the subway from my friend’s place, Broadway show, art museum. I don’t remember what else. I changed shoes a few times that day since I had so many destinations.
More typical was 20-25k.
I know other people land closer to 15k in NYC. That’s at the top end of my normal.
You can certainly wear your cowboy boots here and no one would have any sort of opinion, positive or negative. but cowboy boots would rarely be found in a native New Yorker's closet, male or female. It would be "novelty" pair of boots. We've got our own Rhinestone Cowboys, ha ha. Also, I hope you aren't squeamish about rodents or roaches. When visiting family in LA, one of those giant waterbugs/roaches popped out of my suitcase and a couple of big burly guys started to squeal. It was rather gross.
Actually the cowboy boots are my personal style and other than being thrown out of restaurants I wouldn't care if NYers liked my boots or not. I wear them for me. I'm not a fashion plate, just don't want to stick out as the funny looking one, but I doubt just boots would do that.
Me squeamish? Hardly. All I care is that vermin don't start coming out of my clothing.
Best bet would be to leave my Luccheses and other good boots at home and bring my horseback riding boots (Ariat). They would be good protection if somebody steps on my boot, and good defense if I needed any.
Um because I'm from Los Angeles and don't know bum ... well ... about subways, and hoping lady will teach me all I need to know since I'm going there with her and she used to live in NYC.

I saw a guy with cowboy boots and hat on lower Broadway the other day and thought of you!

You need to be able to read a map. It's really not difficult.

Hey, if it's good enough for the Naked Cowboy ...
