OP, they can be found. I just bought a few pairs at Walmart and have ordered them online also recently. Cargo shorts are basically all I wear all Spring/Summer/Fall.
Who cares what judgmental people think? Obsessing over what other people wear is a strange trait and I try not to associate with people who act that way. Heck, hopefully my cargo shorts keeps such losers away from me!

This is the fashion forum...fashion in itself is caring and judging items you/others wear. If want to talk of items without the fashion subject, then there is a consumer forum to go to.
Most outdoors outfitters are solid purveyors of utility shorts. They'll have whatever lengths that market research tells them will sell well.
My husband's take on his cargo shorts is, "Basically, I'm a walking purse." Which works out well for me, as I don't often carry a purse.
It's been especially helpful with little kids, for zoo outings, etc. Cargo shorts carry sippy cups, sunscreen, a pack of wipes, a couple of extra diapers, etc. with no problem, hands-free.
I'm confused - is this an argument about cargo shorts or about shorts that are longer than the knee?
