This is so true! Nothing ages a woman like that short, teased boufanty looking hair. I don't even know what you call the style. All puffed and standing out from the head, and dull as dishwater. Also, white roots that make it look like your hair is thinning. Hair that moves and shines is the most youthful look.

Is this the stuff you meant? (there seems to be a lot of things with similar names online

As I’ve aged, I look washed out. I hate foundation, but I use blush daily. I make sure people can see my eyebrows. Being an dark ash blonde, a lot of my eyebrow hairs aren’t going grey, they are losing pigment, so they're invisible. I tint, and fill in with a good pencil. I really love Thrive Causemetics eyebrow pencil. It lasts, it’s a little waxy to hold the hairs in place, and the color is perfect. It’s not cheap, but before I bought it I spent twice as much on pencils that smeared, faded or just didn’t work.

I do have some crazy grey eyebrow hairs. They grow straight out and spikey. There’s no taming these babies. I don’t know if this will work, but I’ve read that pulling the eyebrow hair in the direction you want it to grow will retrain the follicle to grow that way. So when I can grab the spikeys, I make sure to pull to the side. My thinking is I’m going to pull them regardless, why not try?

I also love a tinted lip balm.

But the biggest thing? Watch the colors around you. It took a while, but I finally figured out the reason I look so gross in my bathroom is the fluorescent lights and the cool light blue and electric lime color blocking color choices we used in the bathroom. That’s going to be fixed with upcoming remodel in about 6 months.

HAIR SALON SERVICES. Use A professional hair stylist with “color” training. Always.....
Eyebrow waxing

SKINCARE Head to a Merle Norman for a compimentary make-up consultation. ( i wont sit in the aisle at a department store...i prefer the privacy of Merle Norman. ). Not a fan of home party amatuers.

CLOTHING. I like Christopher Banks for clothing. They can assist you in choosing your style and let them run to the sales floor as you stay in the dressing room. Talbots is great too. Maybe you prefer Chicos.. ...Nordstrom's..anywhere that offers a personal shopper experience. Dress up when you go shopping...they will see your style and by dressing up..you will recieve the SERVICE vs looking like a bum on a stroll through the mall. Take this seriously and the stores will too.

Leave your friends out of this...their influence is not relevant. They will poo poo suggestions too much!

All of this is good advice. Merle Norman is pretty much all over the US. I believe they are in Canada also. They aren't terribly expensive, and while I haven't used their products for a while, they are, as I remember, of good quality. Their make up consultation once included a free makeover. I did this with friends in my 0s and 30s before a special occasion and we'd buy a mascara and a lipstick before a special event, and leave "all made up". We'd buy the other recommendation a little at a time.

Back then I, I wasn't terribly concerned with "skin care" then. (I should have been) but I'm sure their skin care line is very good too.

I agree that not all hairdressers are good with color. I'm not sure if they need a formal certificate, but they need to have a basic understanding of human hair color. Hair color is *almost* never monochromatic. Natural hair, and not only blonde, has subtle highlights and low lights.

Your colored grey and white hair should also. NOTHING ages a person more than flat colored hair.

Another poster, Mycatz, mentioned "short teased hair" like a "hairdo" that does not move.

In terms of the stored mentioned above, Chicos looks good on some women who can carry off flowy, dramatic and pattered clothes. I am petite in every way and they are just not flattering to me. However, I have friends who are taller and large boned or just bigger women who look great in Chicos clothes.

Nordstroms and Macy's and probably a few other department stores offer personal shoppers. While I have never availed myself of that service, I also believe it is free of charge. I think using one is a great idea, especially for women who are confused about what to wear, never thought much about clothes, or recently lost a great deal of weight.
