I am curious what people's thoughts are on men who wear thumb-rings.

Currently, I am in my 40s now, and I do work in a retail environment.

I've noticed at most my recent jobs, it seems after I am employed there, I am the only one who wears a thumb right (right thumb) at first, but then other men get the courage up after seeing this and follow suit. Only difference is they tend to then wear one on the LEFT thumb, as not wanting to come across as gay/bi.

I keep mine on the right as I can't care less at my age what others think of my orientation. There are plenty worse things to worry about having buried two separate fathers already to cancer, etc. I also like how it is the same color as my watch, but goes on the other hand to balance things out.

Sounds like a great way to get your thumb damaged. There's very little meat covering the tendons. Unlike your fourth finger, the thumb does a great deal of extending, flexing, and bending in all directions, plus it's the strongest finger so it does a lot of hard work. Personally having just come through a significant thumb injury, the corrective surgery, and physical therapy to recover function, I wouldn't put a metal ring around either of my thumbs. I am continuing to wear my wedding ring because as I said, the ring finger is much more protected by the fingers on either side of it, and of the five fingers it's the one that does the least independent work.

Of course I always remove all rings and watches if working on any kind of equipment including electrical.

Neil Armstrong lost a finger when his ring caught on something as he stepped off a train. Losing a ring finger is a handicap but losing a thumb would be truly crippling. You don't have to be constantly working on machinery to get your finger caught. Don't do it.

Thumb rings are the least fashionable to me on a guy. It just looks awkward usually to me. And I agree that it's the most vulnerable and most important of my fingers so it's just not worth it even if I did like the look.

I don't think it's a courage thing. I have a hard time imagining many men being 'afraid' to wear a thumb ring.

I gotta say - I have never seen a man wearing a thumb ring - ever in my life.

I have seen it, but I did not care for it, or maybe it was just the fella who was wearing it. But if it makes you happy, go for it.

Have to agree it looks awkward and uncomfortable, not a fan. It might make a difference that I have only seen this on guys who are 'blinged out'.

I'm confused, why would it take courage to wear a thumb ring?

I don't think I've ever seen any man wear one, but if you like it, why not?

I've never seen a man wear one...but probably wouldn't notice.

I've worn thumb rings before. I slid it past the first joint and wore it like I wear any of my rings. It wasn't awkward, and not any more likely to get me in trouble than any of the other rings.
