I always dress up for these two holidays, if I'm going out. The degree of formality depends on where we're going.

This year I'm going to my husband's employer's lavish Christmas dinner & dance party, and a New Year's Eve gala. So for those two I'm putting together outfits with sparkly evening gowns, high heels, evening clutches, and formal jewelry.

I'll also be going to a professional organization Christmas party. I'll wear a red party dress to that, along with appropriate accessories.

There's a family Christmas party. I will dress up, but not as much as for the other parties mentioned above. I'll probably wear an evening sweater, pants, and nice boots for that one.

In general my little black dress days are over but I have a nice pair of black velvety jeans and a black beaded sweater that will fill the bill for most festive winter holidays.

There are sparkly things in my closet. But between today's social habits of dressing down for special occasions and a change in life style that has come with my senior years I don't have much use for them anymore.

Yes I dress up, but it depends on the occasion. I typically attend quite a few holiday parties and I dress slightly differently depending on the event. I think this year I have: office holiday party, ticketed holiday event at a venue here, my own house holiday party, friends tacky christmas party, ticketed new years eve event, etc.

The two that I am dressing up for the most are probably the office holiday party and the ticketed holiday party. For both events I plan to wear my classic green velvet blazer that makes an appearance during the holiday season. It's tailored and fits really well. I plan to wear it two different ways:

1) For the fancier ticketed holiday party I am going with navy blue wool dress pants, a blue wool bow tie, white dress shirt, and the green velvet blazer.

2) For the office party, I am planning to dress it down slightly. I intend to wear the blazer with grey wool dress pants, a white dress shirt - open collar with no tie.

In both cases I'm wearing brown leathers.

I really love this blazer because it also goes with black suit pants, black patent leathers, and a black bow tie for black tie events in a pseudo tuxedo type look. It was expensive when I got it but it's been totally worth it! I look forward to wearing it this time of year.
