I could own a nice Rolex or other high end watch, I choose not to. I have a couple of everyday watches that cost no more than $100.00 each and they serve me well. Nowadays I wear a Fitbit all day so I rarely wear a watch now except for,church on Sunday’s. The nicest watch I own is. Citizens Eco Drive watch that cost less than $400.00. It’s a great watch but way more than I need.
Now, if you wanna talk about expensive neckties, I’m all in!
I stopped wearing a watch years ago after I started carrying a cell phone. If I want to know what time it is, I look at my iPhone. I don't see much point to wearing a traditional watch and none for a Rolex at all. If I felt the need for a watch, I'd get an Apple Watch because it actually has useful functions and works with the iPhone.
I think people who walk around wearing a Rolex are fools and become targets for robberies. When I see a Rolex on someone, I'm not impressed, it just reminds me how shallow and superficial they are.
Rolex's and other expensive watches all use in house mechanical movements that do a terrible job of telling the time vs quartz and require ridiculously expensive servicing every 5 years or so. You could buy 10+ much more accurate less fragile watches that require nothing more than a $3 battery every 10 years for the cost of a single Rolex service. Telling the time has really nothing to do with why people buy them, they are jewelry for men that happen to serve a function, however badly they serve it.

I would spend tens of thousands dollars (if I had the money) on many discretionary luxury goods. A Rolex is not one of them. High end watches are something I’m just not interested in.
I agree. Give me a functional device like a smartwatch or a fitbit something designed to do more than demonstrating to others that you have enough money to buy a very overpriced timepiece.

Lol. I own 2 & have never heard this. (FYI- I am a woman, I know the title asks men but I'm curious about the "old saying".
* Ah yes, I looked it up (I'm smart like that)...having one is like having currency therefore wearing the watch, you could get home if needed.
