I never thought about why short-sleeve button-down shirts in pink were less common in general.
I used to like pink (colour) and to wear pink blouse; but in the reason years, probably 6 - 7 years now, I rarely wear pink anymore. The reason is every year at about February we receive emails from the employer and HR to encourage employees to wear pink on Standing Up to Bullies day (Feb. 22) and in October, we receive emails again to wear pink to support the Breast Cancer Survivors. Thus, during normal days, I don't want to wear pink because someone might perceive something wrong.
And so many special occasions during the year, we receive emails from the management and recreation to encourage everyone to wear certain colours like red, green, pink, purple, Hawaiian shirt/blouse, etc… And again, if you ware bright red on any day, someone may come to you and say "Happy Valentine's!" or "Merry Christmas!". LOL. Or any colour, people can say anything. It's funny. But that's okay, we can joke around and laugh.
You can special order true pink pink dress shirts at mens warehouse but its going to cost you. I was quoted like $160 for 2 shirts (some kind of buy one get one deal) but still $80 for a shrit and being compelled to buy 2 just to get pink ... pass.
Don't be afraid to change it up...pink comes & goes a lot. What do you wear with all of those pink shirts?
With my pink polos, I typically wear blue jeans. With my button-downs, I wear navy blue or black casual pants.
