I live in Florida; we have pineapples & flamingos on clothes year round. I don't buy clothes like that. I stick to solids, stripes or animal prints, occasionally a paisley.

I presume there are a lot of local designers there. I noticed that was the case in Puerto Rico. I live in Arizona and we still mostly get the fall/winter collections during their fall/winter selling season, the exception usually seems to be the off-price stores that carry past spring/summer stock year-round.
It's just another latest thing to be popular. I remember when I used to see OWLS on everything (clothing & fashion jewelry).
I DO notice a LOT of pineapple fashion jewelry for ladies & I even got a nice pair of pineapple earrings a couple of weeks ago. I've always liked pineapples (& lemons). They're fun.
Prints and repetitive designs are in again. But that's all year round. As far as summer, I think its a lot of fun. Summer is supposed to be festive. I don't know about what you're talking about but I don't mind some artwork on my shirts.
In truth, I have been seeing this trend at least since Spring/Summer 2017 and I have seen it as well in Spring/Summer 2018, but this year it seems like it might have reached its peak point. Who knows if it will continue into Spring/Summer 2020.
Since moving to FL I've traded in my black and gray wardrobe for pink flamingos and sherbet colors--colors I wouldn't be caught dead in up North.
Kid #2 (aka "The Illustrated Woman") got a matching pineapple tattoo with her bestie. Her relationship with her best friend has cooled somewhat so now she's stuck with a tattoo that has lost meaning--and she confessed to me that she doesn't even like pineapple that much. On the flip side, her boyfriend is into wild hawaiian shirts so she's running with the theme and has been hunting for coordinating pineapple shirts. Go figure.
