Yes. More actually. Different in that there is more focus on skin care and less on passing trends.

I am a few years away from 40, but I'll be there soon enough. As of right now, I wouldn't say that I put a ton of effort into being physically attractive. At least no more than I did when I was in my 20s.

I’ve put in the same amount of effort since my 20s.

In my 20s, I spent more time on my hair and less on makeup. Now, it’s reverse. My hair is short and natural and takes no time so it’s less effort. I spend more time on my makeup. I’ve always made sure my clothing and style was always put together.

I do spend more time on health and fitness now than when I did before my 40s.

I put in more effort now (just turned 40 in January.) But it's largely circumstantial.

In my 20's I was trying to raise young kids, work full time, didn't even like my husband so I didn't really want to look good for his eyes. I just didn't care. For years with him telling me that no man could possibly respect me as a person, men would only want to get in my pants, I would fantasize about getting old, or maybe scarring and disfiguring my face, so that other people would see me as a PERSON. But then eventually I realized hey...I do actually, have a number of male friends and acquaintances and they've treated me with nothing but respect...so... Could it be, that's only how my husband was seeing me or thinking, could it be he didn't get to speak for all men? Wow. But by that point I'd stopped trying to look good, for the most part.

But in recent years, I'm with someone who I know is attracted to younger women, and 40 hit me harder than I expected, mostly because I got extremely sick with flu + sinus infection, I was ill for about a month right after my birthday. So I felt very un-sexy that whole time. And I was kind of feeling pretty bleh about myself, so I have, in recent months, bought new makeup products to try and use (I'm not very good at makeup...I look ok with a very minimal amount) and some more feminine and sexy clothing than what I used to always wear. It does matter to me that my boyfriend continue to find me attractive, so I'm doing what I can. I actually got my hair trimmed for the first time in YEARS and I love how it looks.

But this is not just about trying to be nice looking for my partner's eyes. I want to feel more happy and comfortable in my own skin, because otherwise I can get to be kind of a whiny, self-pitying mess (I'm not proud, I won't lie) and I know that kind of behavior is a pain in the butt to deal with, and I don't want to be that person for him to deal with, either. Feeling good about me, makes me a better partner for him.
