I got a sample of a serum today at Sephora. The girl who gave it to me told me to use it tonight or tomorrow since it will lose its effectiveness because it’s been removed from the original bottle and moved to another one. Is this true?
So it's not one of the pre-packaged samples? It's one that was put into the little flip-cap container by the employee? Then yes, I would use it quickly. Some products will start to degrade once they're exposed to the air.

No, they were trying to help you get the actual effect of the product rather than waiting so long that you might as well be splashing water on your face.

I'm not understanding why you have a problem w/a free sample that you asked for, were told to use w/i a day or two and you are annoyed about that?
Omg I’m just disappointed, never said I was irate about it. They give you enough so it can be used several times but if the ingredients in it are going to go bad after a few days then as I said I’m not sure it’s worth it even asking for a sample. I’m sure I’m not the only person who doesn’t use samples right away either.
Calm down folks. And if anything this should help others who get samples who maybe didn’t know this either. The samples are in a sealed container. One would think they’d last more than a few days.
Is it a Vitamin C serum, by chance? VitC is one of those that is well known to degrade when exposed to light and air. It's not a ploy to get you to buy full sized.
Vitamin C serums are usually clear. Vitamin C is notoriously unstable, quickly degrading when exposed to air and light. This process when the serum changes color turning yellow and eventually brown is called oxidization. When Vitamin C oxidizes it changes to dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA), which then changes the color of your serum from that clear tone down to a deep brown/red based on the level of oxidation. If your serum has changed to a dark color I would suggest not using it. There is a high probability of skin irritation.
