Except the 'wife beater' is an undershirt, not a tank top.

But you do you.

I have never associated wife beaters with tank tops. To me they are two different things. My dad used to wear them under his shirts everyday when I was a kid. I think I have a few in my closet but I haven't wore those in years. I like them I find them comfortable.

"Torso sweat"? I suppose, but I've never even heard of that until now.

I agree a tank top and a wife beater are two different things. Both in cut and fabric. Tank tops have much smaller arm holes and are made with heavier fabric. Some men’s dress shirts are made of fabric which is somewhat transparent and a wearing a “wife beater” underneath is more aesthetically pleasing when you have a dark hairy chest.

This summer I saw my 85 year old neighbor in one. He was also wearing plaid shorts and a boonie hat. I’m still recovering from this.

We only wear them when actually beating our wives.

I think of "wife beaters" as very thin, white tank-tops generally meant to be worn under another shirt. Yes, I still see them, mainly among the lower social classes.
