I read that hanging up sweaters causes them to stretch. I've been hanging up my Ralph Lauren cashmere and wool sweaters for 1-2 years now. At this point will it make a difference if I continue to do so? If I continue to hang them will it cause more harm/stretch at this point?

There is a way to hang sweaters and knit tops that won't stretch them

I don't like to hang sweaters because of the inevitable shoulder bumps. Plus I have a small closet so I don't really have room to hang them. So I prefer them folded and stacked in organizing cubes that I have on the closet shelf.

You’ve been doing it for 1-2 years. Have you noticed any stretching?

I either fold mine or hang them with a fabric hanger. I don't use plastic hangers at all.

I've always hung my sweaters and I've never had a problem.

I've always hung my sweaters. I try to use padded hangers and I pull the sleeves up and drape them around the neck of the hanger to avoid the shoulder bumps.

I have been doing it for a while. Some do stretch, but it is usually on wider hangers between seasons. FWIW, I am female and usually wear a XS/S, so it might be less of a problem for someone who has wider shoulders.
