I saw something on the train last night that I haven't seen in a while - a relatively young, stylish looking "bro" who had a mustache. Just a mustache, no beard, no goatee. It got me thinking that we might be on the early end of a new trend. Every trend/style eventually fades, and the ones that faded away previously eventually come back.
I wonder if that is going to happen in the next few years with the previously hip and currently reviled stand-along mustache on men.
Most guys with them look like a pornographic film star--
or my Uncle Walter....
The only guy that manages to successfully pull it off is Tom Selleck.
They didn't look like porn stars back in the 80s when everyone had them. I love them, I have seen a few on younger men so I hope they're coming back! Although I also love goatees and nicely trimmed beards too.
No, thank you. Stand alone mustaches give me the creeps for some reason. Mustaches are fine with a beard or goatee, but I do not care for them by themselves.
Some men just look better with a mustache, especially if a guy has a lot of space between his nose and upper lip. I also think most men look better with a trimmed beard (not the kind you see on the guys from ZZ Top or that duck show but more like a Shemar Moore look.
I've had a beard and a mustache for over 25 years. My wife said if I shaved she would leave me so it stays on. Actually, the idea of shaving everyday creeps me out.

I worked with a guy who had a full beard for as long as I'd known him; he says he grew it out when he was about 17 and had never been clean shaved ever since.
I had a full beard at the time, but I'd only had it for a few years. One thing led to another, and on a Monday I came to work clean shaven.
On Tuesday, HE came to work clean shaven.
On Wednesday he came to work with his face all cut up & with tiny pieces of toilet paper to stop the bleeding. He said "Now I remember why I hated shaving."
On Thursday he came to work with stubble - he was growing his beard back again.
