Not to sound braggy, but diamonds were fairly common in my family. I grew up not realizing that they were something special that people didn't have many of. I didn't have any diamonds purchased for me, but there were plenty passed down. I wear my grandmother's ring every day, which many people jokingly refer to as "the headlight" because it's a combination of her solitaire, her mother's solitaire, and her mother-in-law's solitaire surrounded by smaller pave stones. I wear it every day not because it's flashy or because it's expensive, but because of the sentimental value. (Sadly the wealth didn't trickle down, just the jewelry)
But frankly diamonds don't hold much importance to me. If I ever get engaged, I want an oval aquamarine.
