Let me start of by saying that there are lots of good people I know who wear them. In fact, I think very highly of many of them. Sometime I even wish I was more like these people.
But fashion-wise, they just don't work. Not sure why. Especially since I like digital watches, even rectangular ones.
Can anyone else relate?
What does this even mean? "Good people", "think highly of them"? How does that relate to wearing a watch?

I guess it's hard to explain. I mean that I have nothing against the kind of people I see wearing them. It's better than a person who doesn't wear a watch at all because he's basically a bum who doesn't care about fitting into society, to give an extreme example. Although the smartphone has already replaced the wristwatch for many people in that regard.

Smart watches are commodity tech pieces. That’s not to say they aren’t cool, but they are not really the same thing as a traditional watch. I doubt there’s much overlap in smart watch vs real watch wearers.
Maybe that’s me being a Luddite. But a good watch can be worn and loved for decades, where a smart watch has a much shorter lifecycle. Give me a good “real” watch any day. I can’t neg smart watch wearers, but smart watches miss the point of having a watch.

Exactly what "fashion aspect" is there to these things? Nobody's wearing one to make a fashion statement -- they're about as fashionable as an undershirt. It's hard not to discuss the functionality of smart watches seeing how that functionality is 95%+ of their appeal. Maybe it would be better to move this to the technology forum instead of trying to limit the discussion to the "fashion" aspect.

They don't work for fashion........because they aren't fashion & aren't meant to be.......& digital watches aren't fashion either IMO...."fashion watches" are stylish....
Smart watches are all about what they do.......not what they look like........does anybody like how they look?
I have wondered if the Apple Watch or smart watch fad has cut into the Rolex, Tag-Huer, Omega etc. market? I do not have a smart watch. I have a couple of watches I wear for casual and then a Tiffany for dress. Really don't like wearing a watch around the house and now with a iPhone, I don't even wear the casual watches that much anymore.
My wife got a "Fitbit" a few months ago. A little over a year ago she stopped at the hospital because she wasn't feeling well. Actually, she was already at the hospital because I had a minor procedure done and she had to be there to take me home or I'd have had to be admitted. I couldn't drive myself home.
But guess what. When we got to the car, she told me I'd better drive as she didn't feel well. I drove, but instead of going home I drove around to the other side of the hospital and escorted her to the outpatient side. (She HATES hospitals and stays away from them if possible.) She'd been there just a week earlier and was given some pills and told to stay home for a couple days rather than go to work. This time someone else saw her and insisted that she be admitted. Turned out that both her heart and lungs were about to give it up. We found out that they're both about 35% shot and will never get better than that. But she's alive and doing fairly well now.
That's all a lead-in to this little Fitbit that she got a couple months ago. It's much like an Apple watch except I think it cost about $100. It does two pretty important things -- keeps a record of her recent heartbeat and tells time. It does all kinds of other stuff, but for her those are important. And for $100? Geeze, you just can't beat the price for a little watch that might someday save her life by instantly providing pertinent information to her doctor.
