While it's certainly sad that some people can't get the heart or liver surgeries they need, what does that have to do with breast augmentation? Just because you don't need it to live, does it mean it's not important? Whether we like to admit it or not, physical appearance is very important in our society, especially for women. If a woman chooses to get breast implants, how does that affect anyone else?

Different field of medicine. Never heard of a plastic surgeon transplanting hearts and livers.. who knew!
Would you go to a urologist to get a rhinoplasty?

Then once they start to leak and they will, you will have nothing but grief and will want them out of your body ASAP. Health insurance does not pay for removal of them. It will all be out of pocket.

I hope you take this message and research because I sure wouldn't get any implants at the expense of health. You can die from them if you seek medical attention too late.

Unfortunately, advice like this usually falls on deaf ears.

As well it should, being based not on facts but on fear mongering.

I had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer and had reconstruction and my implants are 650cc which I believe are a little too large for my small frame. I do feel them as a weight on my chest and I also feel like I am always wearing a too tight bra. I am considering having them removed or at least made smaller. There is a plastic surgeon/microsurgeon in Sarasota whose practice is mostly removing breast implants. She is booked up until September of 2020. There has to be a good reason so many woman are having their implants removed. Before any of you consider putting a foreign object into your body I would look up Breast Implant Illness and Dr. Marguerite Barnett.

You have to realize that your body will most likely attack this foreign body; that's what our bodies were meant to do. Even though I may go from a C cup to a A or AA cup I am still considering it as I hate the way they feel. Granted it is probably different for those who have had a mastectomy because so much skin is removed so my implants feel ice cold to the touch although they look great and I rarely have to wear a bra.

She has had a lot of success........& is very happy about it. She waited until she was almost 30 to do it....so it's not like she didn't *really think about it*...

I know we hear about some of the problems in the past......but we never hear about the success stories.......

Any success stories like hers? Or have most of you had bad results? IMO extensive research & doing it for yourself..not for our men...(like she did)....are super important. Just curious tho..........
You need to make sure you can afford to have them replaced or removed in the future. They don't last forever.

Also, if yu have any breast at all, it will look kinda weird at times. Mammogram lady was telling me about women w/implants, how hard they can be to xray, and how odd they can look. That's because your implant will never sag & will stay high & firm, but your natural breast wll eventually hang off the end of the implants.

It's also a foreign thing in your body. So there may be problems, there may be leakage, etc.

Having said all that, my sister (who was totally flat chested before) has had implants for decades. She doesn't discuss it, so I only assume she's had them replaced at least once. Esp since the ones she got initially were no doubt those that were causing problems back in the day. I do think they balanced out her body, since she was completely flat chested. No other women in our family are flat, so I don't know where she inherited that from. Still, I think she went a bit too big. She might be a bit smaller now. Hard to say. She pretends she doesn't have implants. Even her daughter doesn't know.

I've had a breast lift. It turned out not perfect, but pretty great. I'm glad I had that done. But I don't have implants. I have a regular C cup...maybe B depending on the bra. Big boobs would make me look fat. They always do (Roseanne Arnold, Queen Latifah - both of whom had breast reduction), unless you have a tiny waist w/clothing that accentuates that (Dolly Parton).

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on City-Data.

Clueless.

To the OP, just about all of my girlfriends, my sister, and my sister in law have implants and all are very happy with them. I'm from the south and it is very common in the circles I run in.

My younger friends however are starting to explant. I think that is becoming a health and wellness thing.

Yes, 650cc sounds very big to me.. I think that's why they make you feel uncomfortable. I probably won't go bigger than 400cc. Have you had any symptoms of breast implant illness? I've heard so many stories about it on YouTube and that was one of the main reasons I was holding back on having the surgery..
