I get lots of ingrown hairs and needless to say, it is not very esthetic when you are shaving your legs but can't shave almost half of the hair.
I usually use a shower puff one day before shaving, but it has no effect whatsoever! So is there a reliable way to prevent ingrown hair or actually get them out from under skin? I have no choice right now but to pick them out individually, but that takes too long as there are lots. And it leaves me with red spots for awhile, of course.
And while on the subject, how do you usually depilate your legs? Cheers!
Exfoliating (using a puff) immediately before and after shaving and using a good-quality razor, changing the blades as often as necessary, has spared me from most ingrown hairs.
Heya. Well to be honest I tend to use an epilator ... but I just feel (and have heard elsewhere) it causes lots of ingrown hair. Have you had experience with an epilator or waxing? Did it leave you with or without ingrowns?
If this is a serious and ongoing issue you may want to talk to a dermatologist.
Well, it is, and I use an epilator. How do you think they would be able to help? I mean, everyone always suggests exfoliating, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
Do you have curly hair? I think, since you're taking hairs out by the roots, when they start coming back in, the hairs being curly, they curl and go back in to the skin.
Maybe it would be better to go with something that just cuts the hairs at the skin level, instead of pulling them out? Like just shaving? (I could never recommend waxing...it hurts so much. LOL)

I did use an epilator. It did not cause ingrown hairs for me, but it did cause intense itching. It literally felt like my bones were itchy. Cortisone cream didn’t cut the itch. I went back to a razor.
I would think if you are using an epilator, it would be no different than waxing. You are pulling the hair out at the root. By doing that you would have a greater chance of ingrown hairs because they have to start at the follicle and grow out of the skin. If you used a razor, you would be cutting the hair off at skin level, and it wouldn’t have to start at the follicle to push through your skin.
However, it appears that both ways can cause ingrown hairs. It just depends on your skin. So if all you have done is epilate, try razors. If that isn’t any better your next step is going to be permanent hair removal solutions like lasers or electrolysis.
