In the old days Ivory, Zest, and Lever2000 were these "pure soap" that, after washing, leaves a squeaky clean feel. Now, like other more (supposedly) "upscale" brands, they also leave an oily feel after washing. I understand this is supposed to be good for skin, but I personally don't like the oil feel - seems hard to tell if all the soap has been washed off. I like that squeaky clean feel. They were also much cheaper than those more upscale soaps.

Anyone know if any current brand still makes the simple, pure soap?

Ivory is still around. I just got a big bottle of Ivory "Clean" Body Wash with Aloe Scent. I'm not detecting any oily feeling. I have hypersensitive skin and can only use a few brands. Ivory is working for me. It says it's free of dyes and perfumes. Have you been buying moisturizing soaps by chance?

I know what you're talking about, though. I have that problem with shampoo and hand soap. Too many additives in there to fix some problem or other. The simpler the better in my book.

I got a chuckle over the first post. I don’t wash with soup, and I don’t imagine the OP does either.

I’ve been using hand made or artisan made soaps that I bought over time at Whole Foods whenever I found them on sale. Since I have to apply skin lotion or cream after showering, I don’t worry too much about the issue.

But I think most people have moved over to body wash these days. I still use bar soap, but I assumed I was in the old fashioned minority.

My mom uses bar soaps too- she likes the French kind and tries to pick them up when she travels and sees the ones she likes. Then when she runs out, she gets disappointed she didn’t buy 20 at once.

I use bar soaps for washing my hands. I found some really good plant-based soaps at the .99 Store, of all places! They're made in the USA by Shugar Soapworks.

Yardley soaps are great; no oil slick feel on your skin, and it doesn't dry it out, either.

Campbell and Progresso make fine pure soups

With that said Ivory, our choice, is still widely available.

To the OP.

Please don’t take offense. You have provided some of us with chuckles. You have done a good deed. We need all the chuckles we can get.
