I had completely forgotten about this post! Thanks for the reminder so I could circle back.
I did not get the job I made the post about. Months later I got a different job that I just started 3 weeks ago. This one is remote, so there's no need to shop for or buy anything at all. Big money saver, and considering the state of things right now, a big safety factor as well.
There is a potential job I'm in the interviewing process for that would require business dress. I have been remote at home for more than 7 years now, and when I did have to go into the office for my last job it was full on casual - shorts, sandals, t-shirts, etc.
So, I have a couple pairs of pants and 3 or 4 nice shirts left that I could have worn if I needed to. 'Nice' shirts basically means with collars and buttons.
Right now there are fewer open choices to shop for business clothing like dress pants, blouses, possibly a few jackets. Where would you go for the best options?
I'm in St. Louis, so we have Macy's, Penney's, Dillards, and the usual things like Kohl's and other stores. I definitely need to go in and try things on rather than relying on online shopping and sending things back and forth. If I get an offer I would need to be ready in less than two weeks, and won't have time to wait for deliveries I hope fit. Considering the virus, limited hours, etc. I would prefer not to have to go to a dozen different places.
What are your best choices for business dress (don't need suits - just tailored and professional clothes)?
Thanks in advance!
I'd go with Macy's or Dillard's.
I used to go to Ann Taylor Loft but it, like many, seemed to start catering to younger women and I found the sizing too 'skinny.' I am a bit curvy,
Also, you don't have to wear a suit, IMO. You could do a dress with a blazer, skirt and blouse with blazer, or even dress slacks with a classic white shirt and a jacket. It depends on the work environment. Business attire is a bit more dressy than business casual.
I would also recommend Brandy Melville. They have some very nice blazers and dresses that are perfect for a business look when paired with a blazer on top. They also carry blouses and trousers. Also there are coupons available for formal suiting.

Reason: spelling mistake
Dillard's carries a line of professional clothing called Antonio Melani. It is good quality, wears well, and is appropriate for a work setting. I have also good luck with Talbot's and Brooks Brothers.
Stroll down memory lane...after working remotely for almost 11 years, I lost that fabulous situation and have been back in the rat race ever since (100-mile R/T commute now).
I do remember having NOTHING to wear for interviews; I had donated a bunch of stuff and never bothered replacing it. I stopped at 10 stores before buying and found everything at Dillard's. I'm still wearing some of those items because the have held up really well.
I remember this terrific woman who acted as my personal shopper that day; she would bring me items so I could stay in the dressing room. I tried on a mountain of stuff and came out with a starter collection for interviews and work.
Eventually I started having luck online which I never thought I'd do (for clothing) and visiting department stores has become a thing of the past for me, but I've always remembered that nice person and what a huge help she was that day.
Saw the subject title of this thread and came here to say,
"Dillards."
I see y'all got it covered.
