Despite (some) women attempting to breathe life into this tired fad now and then, I'd never have a purse or a 'handbag'. What's more is I don't know any other (professional) dude who does (and I live/work in a liberal city with a higher percentage of gays than most).
Men having purses and some wearing high heels........

^^It's super nice to finally have a manly man's opinion. You make a super good point......about "old & tired" because then it can't be "fashion".

I use a Maxpedition fatboy. I call my "tactical murse". It's got room for two pipes, a bag of tobacco a cigar or two, a couple of zippo lighters, my phone, a flashlight, water bottle and various small items. Lately I've added a couple face masks.
I'll add; I'm not gay, I don't crossdress and if anyone makes fun of me, I'll hit you with my "murse"!

I've been carrying a "satchel" for at least 6 or 7 years now. I carry my laptop , headphones, extra contacts, solution, my lunch, sometimes a firearm , etc.
I've got a Saddleback leather large satchel, and several other handmade leather ones.

Tho wouldn’t it be easier to carry a gun on a holster for your body & super easy to get to? The guys I know that are able to carry don’t use a purse or satchel.

It's sort of hard to carry an AR pistol and spare mags on my hip
And that only happens when I travel to our rural cabin.
It reminds me of a high school trip to New York city. My roommate was a girl who happy to be seeing her brother. He came out as gay, his family disowned him and he moved to New York.. He stopped by the room to say hi to his sister and she was thrilled to see him.
He started talking and telling me how liberating New York was and how great that men could carry handbags without fear of reprisals. I remember the shoulder bag he had. I felt bad that his family had disowned him, he was a very cute guy, gorgeous blonde hair and super nice too.
Anyway, it was a grown up moment for me and having a better understanding of the way of the world. You would think this issue would be gone. It's certainly a non issue for me and I'm hoping for most people!
The more I read back over all this, the more confused I am. What makes a "purse" a purse? Is it the size? Is it the style or color? Is it what's contained within it or the purpose?
Anything smaller than a messenger bag is a purse? Anything somehow frilly/fancy/overly decorated or in a vaguely "feminine" color turns it into a purse? Or is it a purse only if it contains makeup and feminine hygiene products? Is it a purse if it carries a laptop? I mean, some women's purses are big enough to put a tablet or even a laptop in (and they aren't styled like a backpack, either).
Maybe you just know a purse when you see it? Like porn? The bigger question - why does it matter what it is called? Why is it somehow derogatory if a man carries anything that could be construed as a purse? Why is it only okay (in some minds) for a man to carry ANYTHING unless it is for work-related or travel-related gear?
I mean, if you're in the midwest, for example, people seldom walk ANYWHERE so you can keep your "extra" stuff in your car and it's relatively close at hand. But especially in metropolitan areas you may be walking and taking public transportation the entire day - and yeah, you may need more stuff than a wallet and phone for that 8-10 hour period.
I think the arguments come down to small minds and provincial attitudes...ha
But seriously, real men don't need stuff - they can go it alone...they gotta keep their hands free for combat at all times. Women feel comforted by their stuff - THAT'S how women prepare - keeping all their stuff around them ALL the time. And ladies and gentlemen THAT'S how men and women are different. Sorry - getting a little philosophical but this just turned into such a big thing and now I see that a purse does indeed define the sexes...I feel better now that it's all ironed out.
I think that when you feel compelled to change up your regularly carried small gear/kit bag up to accessorize the rest of your outfit for reasons other than fulfilling your corporate sponsorship deals then your bag becomes a purse in the general populations opinion
Seriously? There is no makeup or hygiene products (other than kleenex) in my purse. My purse carries my wallet with credit/debit cards, cash, glasses, cell phone, keys, business cards, a pen, etc. The closest thing to makeup is my chapstick.
It's kind of funny that I went out yesterday with 3 friends, one male, and he was wearing a crossbody bag. Not that it means anything, but he's Asian, and very well-traveled, having lived all over the world for his job. Man-bags, or whatever you choose to call them, are here and serve a function. Here's a whole page of how they're worn. https://images.search.yahoo.com/sear...g&action=close
I think it evolved that way as an anti pickpocket strategy. Just as the old fanny pack got moved to the front. Partially for security and partially for ease of use. Just as soldiers tactical gear has moved higher on the body as more time was spent on equipment seats than walking upright so it has for the commuter. So most hold more gear than the fanny pack and while less than the backpack or book bag they are more handy for items used relatively often.
