I grew up a total country boy and ran around barefoot all the time and everywhere that I could get away with it. It toughened up the soles of my feet to where I'm 41 now and can still run on gravel without it hurting much.
I am barefoot all of the time indoors and frequently outdoors. I hate shoes/socks and will find any excuse to not wear either one so would be fine with it.
I have pretty thick callouses on my soles so am not bothered too much by walking on rough surfaces now.
My only issue would be in the winter since we do get a lot of snow but I guess I could put on a couple of layers of socks while outdoors in winter.
I used to be barefoot all the time when I was a kid. Everyone was in the summertime. The skin on your feet gets thick and rough. You heels can crack, sometimes so badly that they bleed.
I always went barefoot around the house when I was younger, but now I wear a pair of crocs flip flops.
When my husband and I moved to his family's home in NYC I went barefoot for a couple days. Couldnt understand why a friend of my mother-in-law always yelled out when she saw me, "Where are your shoes?!?" But, I quickly learned why I needed them in the big city.
As time went on, and people started throwing glass beer bottles into the bottom of pools, and they started finding used needles as a part of medical waste washed up on shore at the beach, I started wearing shoes made to wear into the surf and swim in.
Nope, couldn't do it. Id be cutting up old tires or something to find a way to protect my feet.
I could but I wouldn't want to. I have tile floors and those can be bad on your back if you're barefoot all the time. There are also a lot of sandspurs (stickers) in most everybody's yards. I've never been a leave the house barefoot kind of gal.
Well, you could adapt and either make your own 'foot wear' (see Cody on Dual Survival) or toughen up those tootsies and get on with life.
