Wearing masks have become extremely popular in part because it's mandatory in many places. In countries such as Japan wearing masks was a cultural norm before Covid. Sick people would wear masks to not get others sick, but many people wore masks as a fashion statement. What is now seen in the West already was happening in countries such as Japan, namely masks in various colors, patterns, even materials.

Given the diversity of masks, will masks remain as a fashion statement post-Covid? What is your thought about this?

Sure especially if it is the AI photo recognition defeating kind, or better yet, a better looking version for unattractive people. Can I have this one?

It was never a cultural norm in Japan.

Many urban Chinese adopted them in the 00s decade as makeshift attempts they hoped would lessen their coal generation exhaust inhalation burden as its largest cities became saturated with low visibility smog.

As long as there is Covid and a risk to others and laws require a mask, I will comply and wear one. But a fashion statement? Once this all passes, I am tossing mine and will just be out of style or face naked or whatever. This is crazy. Why would anyone want to wear a mask. I just want to be a normal human doing normal things.

I live in an area with the northern deep freeze, stuck at home, have more friends getting into Q Anon, can't go run to escape all the craziness and folks want to wear masks as fashion.

An army of dermatologists had to stop short(liability)of telling me not to wear one at all yesterday.
They do not allow skin to shed properly causing the very blemishes which brought me into their office.
Lovely fashion statement.

Not as a fashion statement, but I can imagine wearing a mask in the airport, in a doctor's office waiting room, maybe even wherever I go if I'm feeling sick or it's allergy season well into the future.

Given that they harm the health of the wearer by concentrating their intake of carbon dioxide, probably not, but the world bought the selling of COVID 19 as a potential death sentence, so I guess the PT Barnum principle applies, here "nobody ever lost a dollar by underestimating the taste of the American public".

Funny. It's really cold here right now and we were out. I told DH I could get in the habit of wearing a mask outdoors all winter long.

But for fashion probably not although it really highlights my eyes. Heh!
