I just found out that George Washington's signature cologne was Number Six by Caswell Massey, created in 1772. Sounds lovely:

I dont wear perfume now because of allergies but would love to smell Jo Malones Orange Blossom as it has many of the chemicals taken out and Kate Middleton uses it ..
My very favorite perfume since the 80's is the one Cher promoted - 'Cher Uninhibited'. Ru Paul's favorite, too. It's been discontinued for a long time but good copies can be found.
my grand wore jungle gardenia and when she was out of that she wore shalimar . I remember one such incident we were headed to church and my aunt was smoking a ciggy and we kids had to smell a mix of shalimar and cigarettes and that was not pleasant . my faves are romance by ralph lauren , rapture by vs and japaneese cherry blossom .

I lost my sense of smell and taste when I had Covid back last Thanksgiving. Mostly back, but perfumes that have synthetic fragrances (which are a lot of them) smell bad to me now. Amusingly, when something smells bad it smells bad the same way. My brain reads it like rancid frying oil.
There was a joke years ago where a guy took a bite of an old old Twinkie and handed it off to a friend that has this taste bad do you? I now do that with my nose…does this smell bad to you?
I miss scent. My neighbor wears scent and it smells fine. It’s just my favorite scents when I put them on me are disgusting. So I have no clue. I wonder if I can get those Jo Malone fragrances here in the US? They sound interesting, I wouldn’t mind trying it.

Regardless who it was, I would only want to smell like a historical figure who bathed on a regular basis.
