Well, if you are fortunate to have enough time to pull the chain over your head during a mugging, you could probably do quite a bit of damage with it! OTOH, if you don't walk around flashing so much jewelry, you would be less likely to be targeted by a mugger in the first place.

I agree, but it may look gold from a distance and someone who wears such blatant flash may be wearing more. It may still attract attention of the wrong sort!
