I notice in the department stores they only have a small selection these days, if they have them at all. I remember in the 1980s, when there were row upon rows of hosiery (Evan Picone, Hanes, etc.). They used to give a nice finished look on your legs, but now the pantyhoseless look is more popular, except like one poster said about black opaque tights, etc. that is always in style, but not the black sheer stocking anymore.

Yes, awful in the heat and not to mention if you even touch the nylon the wrong way, there would be a ugly snag and the nylon would start to unravel. The more expensive the nylons were, the more they would snag, for some reason.

And then you were supposed to put on clear nail polish to seal and prevent further damage... lol

It seems that Mid American Credit Union in Wichita, KS has mandated that all female employees wear pantyhose (I assume that rule is only in effect when wearing skirts or dresses). The women claim it's an archaic rule and should be abolished. Pantyhose are "hot" (and not in a good way) and "itchy", so they say.

Apparently someone at The Wall Street Journal agrees (side note: doesn't WSJ have anything more important to look into, given the current economy?). Pantyhose sales have declined since the mid-90s, they say.

Since I wear mostly slack or jeans, I rarely wear pantyhose anymore but I always wear it (them?) when wearing dresses or skirts. I don't find them uncomfortable at all. And they are excellent for preventing thigh friction (not everyone is fortunate enough to have thighs that don't touch). Am I some sort of dinosaur? Am I destined to carry the entire pantyhose industry on my legs?

GMA is now running some sort of pantyhose challenge (guys, get ready !). Here's a link to the GMA info. You can also follow a link from there to watch the video piece that aired this morning (click the "Watch: Pantyhose in the workplace" link on the aforementioned GMA page).

So, what do you all think? Are (is?) pantyhose dead? Say it ain't so!!!
I hate them and I am mad that I had to wear them to work back when every place mandated them. I love slipping heels onto bare feet. !

Oooh I love those!

I do keep a pair of "nude" pantyhose in my arsenal, just in case I have to attend a wedding or something extremely formal.

I know I had to wear them in the mid 80s and maybe into the 90s. If your last pair of pantyhose ran while putting them on in the morning you had to completely change outfits. If you were wearing a dress or skirt, hosiery was mandatory.

It was not an unusual requirement.
