My soon to be 9 yr old wants to grow her bangs out---I told her she could work on that this summer-She has very fine dark hair. The bangs now are just above her eyebrows. Wondering what to do as the bangs get longer and hang in her face before they are grown out and can at least be tucked behind her ears or clipped back? Has anyone had a young daughter who decided to grow her bangs out? Thanks! Pam
A little bit of gel or mouse can slick them to the sides while they grow out. Depending on how young, those little barettes can be used as well. My personal favorite was always a wide headband to just push them all the way back and keep them out of the way. If the hair wisps up, just a small slick of mouse should keep strays down.
Oh yeah. That is a long, unpleasant process. I have two daughters and we have never made it all the way there. We use headbands, barrettes, clips, bobby pins and then at a certain point just give in and cut the bangs again. I'm just not good with hair, but a friend does something with working them in with a french braid that looks pretty good. I, myself, have not been able to achieve it. (I have a Master's Degree, but often find myself wishing I had studied to be a hairdresser instead. Would have been much more useful now that I'm a stay at home mom with two daughters!) Good Luck!
If they are straight-cut above the brows, wait till they get a bit longer (hanging in front of eyes) and have them cut to be side-swept. One side will be shorter, and the other longer. They can be blown dry to the side if you want, use a little gel for hold, till they get a little longer and they're in her eyes. Then, start sweeping them all the way to the side, twist a couple times loosely and hold in place with one of those tension barrettes (the kind that don't have a clasp and lay flat to head. Twisting them makes them look a little more "done", do it loosely and it will look cute!
Headbands are not a great option because it takes quite a while for the bangs to get long enough to be secured by the headband. I had good luck with those tiny little alligator clips because my daughter could replace them on her own.
The cold hard truth is that the process takes almost a year until you get to the point that you forget that she ever had bangs.
