why is macy's so popular? what makes people so excited about this store? i mean they r not everywhere, and when an area gets any type of Macy's store then girls go crazy. is it because it's the most common upscale department store?

I don't know! Our local Hecht's changed to a Macy's--and I can't find ANYTHING I like! I wear small sizes, and they rarely carry anything under a size 6. The shoes used to be great, and now there's not a large selection of "cute" shoes. Yes, they have athletic shoes out the ying-yang, but nothing but standard/normal shoes!
I would NOT classify our Macy's as "upscale" by any means! Perhaps NY has a better selection, but here, in VA.--nope!

I guess I don't understand the draw toward Macy's either. My local Macy's is certainly nothing to brag about, despite the fact that they do not carry anything in my size. It seems they only market toward the sz 8-10 crowd and I'm a tall drink of water! Nothing for me there!

I'm an avid Macy's shopper. I don't think there is anything 'exclusive' about this store at all. I would just describe it as 'nice'. That's it- just 'nice'. I'm in love with their home dept, and I find the best clothes at really great prices. Macy's has AMAZING one day sales so I guess that may be the attraction. I've said this before- I can get cheaper items at Macys (after markdowns, clearance, sales and coupons), then I can at Target, Marshalls or other moderately priced stores.

It depends on the market area I think - Macy's Landmark seldom has any 2's even - can sometimes find 0 or 2 at Pentagon City or Metro Center. I guess they buy based on demographics?

When they have sales though (and watch those clearance racks) - you can get some great deals.
