Daily, I have to endure simultaneously seeing the disgusting feet of some people in addition to hearing the sickening smacking sound that is made when the soles of the flip flops hit the ground and when people's foot soles smack their flip flop soles.

Do Americans actually wear flip flops informally abroad when visiting other countries? I'd hate to think what is going through the minds of the people in host countries, especially in developed countries, when they see an American(s) walking down a street while creating those annoying flip flop smacking sounds that I mentioned in the paragraph above. Yeck.

Is there someone else in this forum that agrees with me?
I hate flip flops for anything but the beach. They offer no support and are uncomfortable to walk any real distance in. If anybody else wants to put up with that, more power to him/her. People wearing flip flops don't annoy me; I don't really care what other people wear. But I will never wear them myself except at the beach or pool.

? They do make flip flops with support. Even orthopedic! You haven't looked at flip flops lately, have you? I tried some on that I could have climbed a mountain with.

Yep. My Vionics are outstanding ... provide better support than a lot of my regular shoes.

Then I stand corrected. I must be thinking of the old fashioned kind. I got a pair of them a few years ago to wear around the beach and pool deck. Are what you are talking about more like sandals? I find it hard to envision how flip flops could be supportive with an open back, no sides, and the fact that they're held on by a small strap that goes between two toes. The flip flops that you're talking about must be something more.

This is one of the pairs of Vionics that I have. They've got great support for my high arches and good heel support. They aren't the typical flat flip flops that people think of.

Flip flops are the shoe equivalent of dirty old stained sweatpants. They say “I’m too lazy to care.” What is particularly sad is seeing women with their hair, makeup, and nails done, and a cute outfit only to be wearing flips flops. It’s like they just ran out of energy getting ready and said f-it, I just don’t care anymore. Like smoking or gu chewing, it just destroys and cheapens the whole image. The worst is the morons that wear them to WORK! That is just nasty and they should be sent home, not allowed to go around the workplace with that sticky slap-slap-slap sound and showing off their dirty feet in the workplace.
What century are you in? Spring is here and all the ladies are showing off their pedicures (and very clean feet) in their attractive flip-flop sandals.

As I stated above, I was raised that they are tacky, but times change. My first pair I was like oooooooooooh, I have been missing out. I have always gone barefoot as much as possible, so these are a win for me.

My dog likes to chew them up because they are rubbery. Good Riddance.
