I'm looking to save money any way possible. I have a pixie cut and it costs me $50 to get it cut every 5-6 weeks. Has anyone tried a barber for women's short hair cut? I think barbers charge quite a bit less. Hair stylists advise that a women's pixie cut is much more complicated than a man's hair cut so that's why it is more expensive.

I did try a Supercuts stylist one time several years ago but my hair got butchered. It was really bad. When I went to work the next day my co-workers got a good laugh at my hair. Thankfully my hair grew fast.

The chain called Hair Cuttery is much less than $50 for a cut. It's around $30, it might depend on the area you live.

You can try it, but I've heard of barbers refusing to cut women's hair. (Of course, in the case I was thinking of, it was a gender-neutral friend and maybe that's what they were refusing when they said they won't cut women's hair, even into a man's haircut, but still be prepared that they might refuse.) If you do it, I'd advise you to ask them beforehand exactly how they plan to cut and style it, and bring pictures of exactly what you want, so you don't end up with another unpleasant surprise. And ask what they plan to charge you. If you're expecting the price to cut a man's hair via putting the #2 blade guard on a pair of clippers, and they charge you what they would for a more-complex men's cut, you could end up paying the same.

I used to go to a barber many, many years ago when pixie haircuts weren't even in style. I was the only woman in the barber shop and got funny looks many times. However, I really liked the tight shingling at the nape of my neck and couldn't find any hair stylists at the time who would/could do that right. I go to a hair stylist now, but she cuts it just as short without always using clippers high up the back. I will say that, at my advanced age, I'm more comfortable with a female stylist. It's just a more comfortable atmosphere.

I don't really bother to go to stylists anymore. If you're hair is short you really can DIY it.
I got tired of stylist who can't do anything but go thru the motions. I bought a clipper set off Amazon and while it takes forever for me I am pleased with my hair cuts more often than going to the stylist.

In fact I went less than 10 days ago and already had to fix it myself at home.

Tons of material and youtube videos on this.

Short haircuts on women can actually be more technical and often take longer.

Stylists are exceptionally well versed in advanced techniques, such as layers and removing weight from hair.

Please do not resort to DIY hair care, cutting your own and thinking about the potential savings from avoiding a stylist or barber. As an amateur, you can’t possess the same skill levels as a professional, so it’s best to turn to the pros.

I had a (female) stylist years ago that told me she was trained as a barber and that it actually required more training than women's hair. IDK. It just came up because I noticed some of her clients were men.

Current stylist is male owns his own shop. He said his client list is 95% female.
