Hoosier - I have a 15% off coupon to Macy's to be used between now and Feb. Let me know if you win the gift card. I don't live near a Macy's and it can't be used online. I will be happy to mail it to you.
Great suggestions on here. One thing I might add is go to a good dept store (like Macy's) and use their personal shopper service. They can help you get the most bang for your buck with mix and match and a professional look that gives you confidence. Good luck with your new position!

Well, I wouldn't know what a personal shopper costs, LOL. I thought that some stores offer a personal shopper for free or a very reasonable cost. Please post pics!
I am not in my 40's but I think you could invest in a couple of business suits in navy and black and then also a black skirt, .. then you could buy different colors of tops and just make combinations little by little add to your wardrobe. Buy the basics and then accessorize with color.
You could also make an appointment with a wardrobe consultant... like for example at Nordstrom's to give you ideas.. it might be worth it in the long run. good luck
excellent advice. Thank you. What you said about spending more on quality makes a lot of sense and until now I've never agreed with that statement. I'm in the running to win a $700 Macy's gift card. Soooo, if I do win it, then I'll be really havin' a fun time shopping!
Coon Boy, you promised to send that gift card to me, remember???
I just checked Macy's website and personal shoppers are a free service. I wonder if there is a tip required though. Nonetheless, I will definitely check it out, even if I don't win the gift card.
