People in Europe, Japan all look more fashion-conscious to me.

I'm irish and I've been to America quite a bit and yeah id say that Europeans are more fashion conscience, America just doesn't seem to care about fashion in some areas. The metropolitian areas seem to be where the most fashionable live in America. In Ireland and all across Europe we have great high street stores that sell amasing fashionable clothes for a great price.

If you go to a rural area in most of those countries, you won't see much "fashion" at all! Any "city" will have their share of fashonistas, but the majority of the country is as much of a "bumpkin" as we are!!!

"Fashion" is in the eye of the beholder.

That being said, I think Americans are less trendy-conscious and care more about value than the latest thing.

When I am in Europe, I dress quite differently than I do in the US. I wear more suits or ensambles - pulled together outfits, than I do here. Can you imagine walking along any of the fashionable areas in Europe wearing sweats and Niki's?

It cost alot of money to keep up with fashion, as much as I love clothes, handbags, jewelry, and shoes, I try and stick to classic looks that will carry me through many seasons ... I wear a lot of black in the fall/winter, skirts with boots, etc ....

It depends on where you go in America. People in big cities (New York, Los Angeles) are quite fashion (or trend) conscious whereas people in the more rural areas tend not to be.

My wife is Eastern European and we have fun when we go out and identify the Russian women in our neighborhood based on their fashion. If its 90 degrees outside, a lot of times we'll see them in jeans and high heel shoes. So it kind of depends on how you define "fashion". People here (Los Angeles) are very conscious of fashion but its more along the current trends than high heels every day.

Yes. I also think Americans are much more overweight and therefore tend to be less concerned with their appearance than other countries.

My mother (who is insanely well-traveled) says that American women spend the most money to look the most ridiculous. Feels like people in other countries (Asia, Europe) are way better looking with much less expenditure.
